Pardubice

This city of 92,000 people (2023) is known as the centre of industry, with an oil refinery and an electronic equipment plant.

• 1 Pardubice main railway station. Pardubice main railway station (Czech Pardubice hlavní nádraží) is one of the largest railway stations in the Czech Republic, located about 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) west-south-west from city centre of Pardubice, and an important railway network hub.  (updated Feb 2021)

The easiest way to get to Pardubice is by train. It lays on railway between Prague - Brno - Vienna and Prague - Ostrava. There is at least one train to and from Prague every hour. There are three train companies serving this route: Czech Railways (České dráhy), RegioJet and Leo Express. Travel to Prague takes about one hour (104 km). Tickets cost about €4-7.

An overnight train from Rijeka stops here in the summer months; it runs via Ljubljana, Csorna, Bratislava, Břeclav and Brno, continuing to Prague. It's run by Regiojet, booking essential.

• 2 Pardubice Airport (Letiště Pardubice). PED  ^IATA is both a military and a civilian international airport. The airport does not receive a lot of flights and serves as a low-cost airport for Prague, especially for charter flights.  (updated Feb 2021)

Pardubice does not have highway access, the best possibility is to go to Hradec Králové via the D11 highway, which is 20 km from Pardubice, and then to Pardubice.

Public transportation system, consisting mainly of busses and trolley-busses.

There are also pedestrian/bike paths on some roads.

Most of the city is able to be safely walked as well, but it may take awhile.

  • 2 Green gate (Zelená brána). May-Sep: Tu-Su 10:00-17:00; Oct-Dec Apr: Sa Su 10:00-17:00. Gate and tower which was rebuilt in 1507 by William of Pernštejn. The gate has a historical exhibition and you can climb the tower. 50 Kč.  (updated Feb 2021)
  • 3 Pardubice Castle (Zámek Pardubice). Castle daily 06:00 - 20:00, museum Tu - Su 10:00 - 18:00. from 15th-16th century, contains the East Bohemia Museum. Various admission charges.  (updated Dec 2022)

• 6 Kunětická hora. Highest point of the wide area around Pardubice (295 m) with the castle on the top.  (updated Feb 2021)
• 7 Kunětice Mountain Castle (Kunětický hrad). The castle was rebuilt in 1491 and burnt to the ground in the 17th century, and was reconstructed in the 20th century. The castle has a museum with a mural dating from 1523 depicting Samson and Delilah.  (updated Feb 2021)
• 8 Památník Jana Kašpara. Open 24 hours. Sculpture of the first Czech pilot Jan Kašpar who was born in Pardubice and first flight in the country from Pardubice to Chrudim. Free. (updated Nov 2021)
• 9 Ležáky memorial (30 km south of Pardubice near Miřetice), ☏ , lezaky@lezaky-memorial.cz. Nov-Mar: M-F 09:00-16:00; Apr-Oct: Tu-Su 09:00-17:00; otherwise upon agreement. Commemoration of the annihilation of the village of Ležáky by Nazi Germans on 9 June 1942, as a retaliation for the assassination of the acting Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich. 30 Kč (reduced 20 Kč).  (updated Jun 2015)
• 10 Pardubice crematorium, Pod Břízkami 990, Pardubice (City bus stop 'Krematorium' - lines 10 and 6). The city's famous crematorium built in a decorative rondocubist style in 1923.  (updated Sep 2024)

• Football: FK Pardubice play soccer in Fortuna or First League, the top tier. Their CFIG Arena (capacity 4600) is on the riverbank 1 km north of town centre.
• 1 Pardubice Racecourse. hosts the Velká pardubická, a famous steeplechase race that is widely regarded to be the toughest and most dangerous in Europe.  
• 2 Golden Helmet Motorcycle race. The motorcycle race takes place at the Pardubice - Svítkov stadium. It often draws in over 100,000 spectators.  (updated Nov 2021)

Pardubice Brewery is a renowned Czech regional brewery established in 1871 in the town of Pardubice with a proud tradition of brewing beer since the middle ages.
